Entertaining thousands of patrons each season, The Parkway Playhouse is a small, professional theatre company in
Burnsville NC, and one of the oldest theatre companies in the entire state. Bringing talented actors, dynamic stories and plays to the mountain region, The Parkway Playhouse produces six productions during each June-September season, all of which take place at the
playhouse's historic venue, just north of the Burnsville Town Square.
 The Parkway Playhouse originally began as the Burnsville Playhouse in 1947
when the theatre also housed a school, the School of Dramatic Arts. The theatre education program was the first of its kind in the South, and the theatre company’s founder, Professor William Raymond Taylor, helped to shape the educational program. Over the years, the school dissipated.
Today, however, The Parkway Playhouse elicits the help of interns and pre-professional students hoping to working in acting, directing, designing, and playwriting.
Students and interns are encouraged to apply to the playhouse’s internship program.
In addition to their seasonal show schedule, The Parkway Playhouse theatre also hosts and produces several off-season special events. Stop by during the season and check out a show. We are
