Dellinger Grist Mill is an Old Grist Mill located in
Bakersville North Carolina,
right on beautiful Cane Creek. One of the few
historic North Carolina Grist Mills still operating, the Dellinger Grist Mill was established in 1867 by Reuben Dellinger. Since then, it has remained in the Dellinger family for over 146 years, and in 1997, Jack Dellinger put forth a great effort to restore the old site.
This restoration resulted in its inclusion to the National Register of Historic Places. In the early days of the mill, the Dellinger family provided food essentials that many locals subsided on. In the millís later yearís, the Dellinger family would grind not only corn and other grains, but they also operated a thriving sawmill.
Dellinger Grist Mill is one of the Operating North Carolina Grist Mills that offers tours and group packages starting every third Saturday during the months of May to September. Visiting the grist mill is a great way to learn more about the history of Mitchell County and hear about
life for the locals in this beautiful region of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In addition to the Saturday dates, the mill remains open for tours and educational shows the week after the third Saturday. Come watch and learn how corn is ground into cornmeal. The old grist mill is open from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during these times. In addition to the educational tours, visitors can purchase cornmeal and grits that are ground from the finest USDA approved mountain grown corn.
